Greenfield Arts and Greenfield Community College, hosted a wonderful set of activities, including cake sales and arts activity, for the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning ran by Macmillan, on Friday 29th September. Students raised a fabulous total of £210, which will go towards supporting people who are facing cancer.
Greenfield Arts group ‘Creative Forum’ joined up with Jade tutor group to take part in activity and raise funds. Students took a guided trip around The Greenfield Gallery, recognising the brilliant work of local artist Mike Connell, and then went on to have cake and join in the activity with Creative Forum members, who meet every Monday evening and Friday morning. The group have been running for 6 months and come together to learn from one another, offering creatives of all ages and abilities a chance to develop their artistic skills.
Artist, Sharron Bates facilitates the group each week and therefore guided the session offering both adults and young people a chance to work together to create one big quilted collage, based on what it is they love and want to share with others to brighten their day.
The event was enhanced with the sale of home-made cakes, made by students from Greenfield Community College, who gave up their free time after school to bake goods especially for the public. Students brought the entire school together by holding stalls in both the Arts Centre and canteen, and staff remarked that the turnout was excellent.
All events were devised by the students who were keen to bring their local community and school together for a good cause and share their love for helping others. Staff also remarked that students were enthusiastic, dedicated and the events showed their various creative talents. So much so that parents and staff also made generous baking donations which helped raise the fantastic total.
