Greenfield Community College were named top PE department in Durham County at the County Durham Sport awards this week.
The awards ceremony, held at Ramside Hall, was a great success showcasing the very best that sport has to offer across the county. The presentation of awards followed an inspirational and motivational speech from Paralympic guest speaker Mark Colbourne MBE (Pictured above).
Schools from across the County were nominated for the award following strong competition in local events. The winners of each of the local competitions went forward to battle it out for the County Champions title. Greenfield overcame stiff opposition from Consett Sports Academy, St Johns, Dene Community School and Durham Trinity Sports College. Staff and pupils from Greenfield were delighted to be announced as the winners of the County Sport award for 2012–13.
In 2012-13, over 72 teams were given the opportunity to represent Greenfield, and amazingly 12 teams attended County finals. Greenfield’s inclusive and developmental approach recognises all students have so much to gain from their involvement in sport. In addition their gifted and talented programme provides academies and clubs in a wide range of sports, including links to Professional Football Clubs such as Middleborough, Sunderland and Newcastle, through their highly successful Marin Gray Football Academy.
It has been another fantastic year of sporting success for Greenfield Students, and this award recognises the commitment of their highly skilled PE department and coaches, along with that of their students. Very well done to all involved as we continue to build upon these successes.
