Boccia is a paralympic sport which is similar to Bowls and French Boules, but is played indoors.
At the start of the year Greenfield entered their Boccia teams into the Durham County Boccia tournament, where they performed very well. Greenfield were therefore selected to represent County Durham in the North East Regional U19 Boccia event on Friday 25th January. Unfortunately Greenfield’s older students had exams that day, therefore their younger Yr 7 team travelled to the event, for the experience. They had a fantastic day at Cardinal Hume School in Gateshead, and were absolutely delighted to gain a bronze medal, after finishing third in the region, against some much older players. Very well done to Kyra, Willow, Joshua, Conor and Lewis.
Over the next few weeks and months, Greenfield students are looking forward to a some expert Boccia training from a National Boccia player Lee Maddison, Cricket coaching with Darren Brown (County Durham Development Coach), Basketball with the Wild Cats, Girls Rugby with Karl Stephenson ( Durham Rugby League Coach), Table Tennis with Matthew Porter (County Table tennis Coach), Tennis with Carl Brough (Level 2 LTA Coach) and many other opportunities such as the launch of Greenfield’s Rowing club next week and a Community Baseball club. Again many of these opportunities are available to our local community. For more information contact our Community Sport manager.
