The innovative MGFA professional football academy based at Greenfield Community College has been operating for a full academic year with spectacular results for both boys and girls. Standards have risen rapidly in the academic performance of academy players and also in their performances on the field. The college has had their best season ever in the BASFA league and is also at the top of the MGFA academy league at present beating some very strong academy sides along the way.
Several Year 11 students who are coming to the end of their time at Greenfield Community College have gained places on the MGFA Level 3 BTEC Sport Performance and Excellence course starting in September and are looking forward to starting their studies in combination with becoming part of this elite group of Under 18’s who double up as the development side for Darlington FC.
It is a Year 10 pupil at the college who this week makes the headlines. 15 year old goalkeeper Jack McLaren has been signed by Martin Gray to the Darlington FC first team squad, the first member of Greenfield’s academy to progress to the heights of first team football.
