Pupils from year 10 and 11 visited Catterick Army Barracks to take part in an Army Experience Day.
On arrival they were greeted by soldiers who had seen active service abroad (including Afghanistan) and any pupils hoping for an easy time of it were shocked to discover they would start the day with a 1.5 mile run! This was won by Bradley Beaumont in a time well under the 10mins 30 seconds required to be a real soldier! Next, they were split into groups and took part in team work exercises (along with lots of press-ups!)
Then, during lunch time, everyone was asked to take on plenty of fuel as they would face the dreaded ‘Obstacle Course’ in the afternoon. On a cold and windy day, pupils climbed ladders, crawled through muddy trenches, ran through deep water, scaled enormous obstacles, helped each other over walls and jumped over water filled pools. Every single pupil completed the course and the team spirit displayed was outstanding. Well done everyone for a memorable day.
